Minister of the Word

trevor jenningsRev. Trevor Jennings

Trevor and his partner Julie-Anne have four children and have lived in Neutral Bay since February 2003. Trevor is originally from Cork in the Republic of Ireland and grew up on a dairy farm. He was ordained as a Uniting Church Minister in January 1994 and served as a Minister with Sugarloaf Community Parish in Lake Macquarie, and at Parramatta Mission in Sydney before coming to St. John’s.

Trevor also worked as a lay pastoral assistant with the Methodist Church in North Dublin. Trevor’s theological training began at Cliff College, in Derbyshire, England. He spent two years at Moore Theological College and a further two years at United Theological College, both in Sydney. Trevor also has experience of working and living in Kings Cross, Sydney. He worked in a hostel for people who had been recently diagnosed with HIV Aids or were awaiting test results. He also spent five years volunteering at P.J’s Café, an outreach venture to transgender sex workers and people who lived on the streets of Kings Cross.

Trevor has always felt more comfortable with the people on the margins of the church and especially likes connecting with people beyond the church. Trevor takes a pro-feminist stand in life and is interested in men’s issues and especially in dialoguing with men in regard addressing male violence.

As a migrant to Australia, Trevor identifies easily with issues of migrancy and is committed to a multiculturalising of society through the church. Trevor’s interest in alternate worship is an attempt to create space for the exploration of authentic spirituality in every day life: in business and employment, and in family, home and community relationships.
